I came to Garden Design from an Art & Design background. After gaining my BA (Hons) in Art & Design, I had a successful career as a ceramist for 14 years. My love of plants, design, and the natural environment led me to train as a Professional Garden Designer. I completed my training in 2001, having won the East of England Garden Design Competition for a garden I designed as a part of my course, and have since created designs for a variety of gardens such as the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, and Channel 4’s ‘Great Garden Challenge’. Since then I have worked on a wide range of gardens; large and small, traditional and contemporary. Clients often say how my designs have made a difference to their lives, providing peaceful retreats, attracting wildlife, and with plants and focal points that give interest and colour for much of the year.
For my garden designs, I draw inspiration from the setting, surrounding landscape, style of the house and most importantly the taste and lifestyle requirements of individual clients. I seek to design gardens that are not only beautiful but enhance the lives of those who use them. Sustainability and care for the natural environment are important aspects of my work. As far as possible, I use sustainable materials and features, with plants which support local wildlife.
I live in a village north of Cambridge and although I have designed gardens across the UK as well as in other countries, I now focus on gardens more locally. This means that I can recommend and work with local landscaping teams that I have developed a long-term working relationship with, and source plants from nurseries that can supply a wide range of reasonably priced and good quality plants that are often not available from garden centres.
