Terms and Conditions

My initial visit would be to see your garden, answer any queries you may have, and discuss your answers to my questionnaire. This would be free of charge, unless the round trip is more than 50 miles, in which case I will need to charge travel expenses. The aim of this visit is for me to explain how I work, and for us to discuss what you would like for your garden. However, we will not discuss specific design ideas for your garden at this stage.

If you decide during that first visit that you would like to appoint me to design your garden, and it is convenient for me to start surveying and/or discussing any initial ideas about design or planting on that day, my charges would start at that point.

Should you decide to retain my services my standard rates are as follows;

• Design – £60.00 per hour
• Project monitoring and site visits during construction – £60.00 per hour
• Planting advice or garden consultation – £75.00 per hour

As a rough guide, usually the costs for a medium-sized garden would be £800 to £2000 for concept plan only. For a full design, plant list and planting guide, it would be £1200 to £2700.

However, these figures are only a guide and exact costs will of course depend on the size of the garden and the complexity of the design. All travel time, and project monitoring will be charged at the hourly rate.

The landscapers I work with can provide a quote for building your garden, once you and I have agreed to a final plan and I have drawn up a detailed concept plan for them to draw up an itemised quote

• All prices given for purchasing of plants, raw materials, work by contractors, etc, are estimates and not a fixed quote.
• I can supply you with a plant list for you to source your own plants, or I can supply them for you. If I supply them, there will be a small percentage charge to cover ordering, arrangement of deliveries, etc.
• I will usually invoice you for materials and plants once I have received the bill from the supplier, although where necessary supplier invoices will be made directly to you. Honesty is important to me, and as such, I will not make invoices out to companies rather than a client personally (unless there is a valid reason for doing so) or be involved in any other practices that would enable tax evasion, so please do not ask me to do so.
• Once plants or materials have been agreed to, ordered and delivered, the suppliers cannot change the items delivered except under exceptional circumstances. Once plants have been delivered to you, their care is your responsibility – so remember to keep watering them once they have been planted! The nurseries do not provide a guarantee for plants or bulbs, so I therefore cannot take responsibility for any failure. You are responsible for maintaining the planting and turfing and replacement of any plants, turf or seed that fails after the end of the garden build. Pests and diseases, adverse weather conditions and lack of care all affect the success of your plants – and these I have no control over!
• Should you retain me for project monitoring, it must be noted that you are responsible for the employment and payment of any landscapers, contractors etc. I can, however, suggest landscapers who I have worked with on many projects, and am able to oversee the project if you would like.
• Work undertaken by any contractors, whether the project is monitored by me or not, is the responsibility of the contractor. I cannot be held liable for any damage to services or property caused by the contractors, or for any delay in the work being started or finished.
• Unless otherwise negotiated and agreed in writing, payment is due 7 days from the date of invoicing. Unless the project is small, I will invoice you at the end of each stage for work completed up to that point.
• In the event that you wish to terminate my services before the completion of a project, you will need to notify me in writing as soon as possible. I will invoice you for the time taken to that point, plus a £50 cancellation fee. Settlement is expected within 7 days.
• If work on your project means I cannot travel home and will need to be away for one or more nights, then arrangements will need to be made for accommodation. If this is the case then we will discuss and agree arrangements prior to appointment.
• By appointing me, you give your consent for me to store personal data about you, such as your email, name and address and telephone number, in order to contact you, and to share it where necessary with relevant parties who need it to send you information (e.g. quotes for work) or deliver items relevant to the garden design (e.g. plants, or materials). I will not use the data in any other way.
• Unless you instruct me otherwise, I may use plans and images of your garden in publicity, (such as on annamcarthur.co.uk or social media) to illustrate work done by Anna McArthur Garden Design. I will not, however, include your name, address, or any other details that would identify you, unless we have made a prior agreement on this.
